History in Plain Sight – Who Is That Street? – Part 1

I have a great time over the last few months working with Jay Moore on his History in Plain Sight video series. Jay and I share a common passion for Abilene, Texas history and a desire to share these stories with our community and the world. Jay contacted me last spring asking if I’d be interested in helping him with his next story, “Who Is That Street?” I jumped at the opportunity.

“Who Is That Street?” is a story about the names of some of the streets that people in Abilene drive down everyday. Jay found that while almost all of us in Abilene will drive down Sayles Street, for example, very few people know why the street is named Sayles. Join Jay as he tells the story about the names of some of Abilene’s streets.

The first part of this story covers the reasons behind the naming of Abilene’s original streets. The story then turns its attention to showing how some of those street names were changed to honor the men and women that had a significant impact on the development and growth of Abilene. In this first part, Jay Moore covers Treadaway, Merchant, Parramore and Willis streets.
